Amethyst: Transparent and relatively hard. Type of quartz. Iron gives amethyst its purple color. The deeper colors of purple are more valuable.

Pure gold (24k) is too soft to use for jewelry so other metals such as copper and zinc are added. The color of a gold alloy can vary slightly depending on the proportion of metals added. How to Care for Your Amethyst & Gold Earrings

It's possible but unlikely that 14k gold will tarnish so these earrings will probably never need much cleaning. To keep the gold scratch free, wrap your earrings in jewelers' anti-tarnish tissue so they do not rub against other items in your jewelry box. The tissue will also help protect against tarnish forming. If the gold ever does start to darken, wipe gently with a damp cloth. Let the jewelry air dry thoroughly before putting away.
