As an artist I've made many paintings that now hang on walls. They don't move and the viewer must always approach the art. In contrast to that... Jewelry gets around. And the woman wearing it is the most important part of the artwork. As she moves, her jewelry can become an unexpected pleasure for everyone nearby. years ago marks a major shift in human consciousness toward the self-awareness of modern humans. Pretty heady stuff for humble beads! So, going with the humankind flow, I take my love of color and shape and texture, add in my art and jewelry-making training, toss in a few imaginings about who may be wearing the jewelry I'm designing, and form it all into elegance that can move around the room. Unfussy elegance. Sometimes quirky elegance. Sometimes, especially in the summertime, just for fun and colorfully unique elegance. All made for enjoyable easy wearing and designed to enhance each woman's beauty for a very long time. There may even be some mysterious influence on human consciousness! |
Jewelry MakingI learned most of the professional jewelry-making techniques used to make ColorSpark Jewelry at FIT in New York City. Such techniques tend to be traditional, time consuming, long lasting and characteristic of high-quality jewelry. In beaded pieces that includes using doubled silk thread, knotting between pearls or beads, and finishing with French wire rather than with a crimp or bead tip. Those techniques do not work well with some materials such as crystals or in some designs that include precious metals as a structural or decorative element, so I start with my knowledge of those techniques, combine it with the metalsmithing skills I was taught, and then go from there. Whichever technique I use and teach to others, our aim at ColorSpark Studio is to make beautiful, special, high-quality jewelry that will last a very long time and always be a pleasure to wear. |
